The Standard Club is a prevention-first national leadership league for junior high & middle school boys (Ages 11-15), designed to build confidence, character, and emotional strength before life pushes them to a breaking point. This isn’t a reaction to a crisis it’s a movement to stop the bleeding before it starts. Through mentorship, mindset training, and real-world skill building, The Standard Club helps boys grow into men who can lead with purpose, manage pressure, and stand tall in who they are.
We believe that every young man carries the potential to lead but without real guidance, and active engagement that potential can disappear into silence, deception, or self-destruction.
By the time they’re showing signs of substance use, violent outbursts, self-harm, or suicide attempts, we’re already too late. At that point, the damage is deep, and involvement with the judicial system or outside agencies often sends them into a spiral that makes things worse, not better. The Standard Club exists to stop the bleeding before it starts—through real conversations, emotional skill-building, and character development that helps boys face life with strength, purpose, and connection.
Because with statistics like these, we can't afford not to. Prevention is the only plausible solution.
These grim realities show that teen boys need real connection, emotional literacy, and trusted guidance and a stable social support system in place before silent struggles escalate into crisis. Unfortunately, by adolescents, most no longer look to their parents for that guidance.
That’s why we aren't waiting to respond; we train, connect, and walk with boys as they become young adults ensuring they are equipped and supported before the crisis starts.
The Standard Club programs and topics were designed to prevent disconnection, despair, and derailment by showing up early and building real competency in the hardest areas of young male development.
1 in 3 boys struggles with confidence during middle school
Boys are often taught to suppress emotions instead of mastering them
Positive mentorship reduces risky behavior and improves academic performance
A supportive social circle of peers has been shown to decrease feelings of loneliness, improve self-esteem, and a heightened sense of personal competency and sense of belonging.
We don’t just mentor boys we're building informed, mentally strong, and emotionally aware young men from the inside out.
At The Standard Club, we equip boys in grades 6–8 with the tools to lead with confidence, manage pressure, and make smart choices when it matters most.
Our leadership leagues heavily emphasize emotional development, character-building, actionable life skills they can implement immediately, and accountability.
Mentally: Improve self-esteem, emotional regulation, and resilience
Socially: Communicate with confidence, respect boundaries, and build real friendships
Academically: Boost focus, motivation, and decision-making in the classroom
The S.T.A.N.D.A.R.D. framework is the foundation of everything we teach at The Standard Club. It gives boys a simple, memorable guide for building character, managing pressure, and navigating real-life situations with confidence, clarity, and control. From the classroom to the field to their friendships, it equips them with the tools they need to lead themselves first—because leadership starts from within.
Self-discipline builds the internal control needed to stay focused and make smart choices under pressure, even when no one is watching. Self-Discipline is what they will carry with them into every situation and allows them to embrace independence without constant oversight or a need for external validation. The STANDARD for self-discipline says, you are responsible for you and for your choices.
Teamwork teaches young men how to lead by listening, collaborate under stress, and build trust. These are skills every strong leader needs. For those aspiring to go on to be athletes or executives, it's paramount to know how to cultivate relationships and motivate others. The STANDARD of teamwork reinforces that success is built on relationships. If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, build a team.
Taking ownership of your actions helps you recover quickly from mistakes and earn respect, even in high-pressure situations. Accountability teaches our young leaders to embrace accountability as a resource at their disposal rather than a punishment. The STANDARD says, we don't hide our mistakes; we own up to them, we assess what went wrong, then identify better way to handle situations going forward. The ability to grow begins with being accountable for our choices and actions.
Nobility means doing what’s right, not what’s easy. Being a leader of self, first and then others require courage, honor, and a strong moral compass. Boys often here the term 'King' being used, with a point of reference for the level of responsibility that comes with it. The STANDARD says integrity first.
Good decision-making under pressure separates followers from leaders and keeps emotions from steering the outcome. With sound decision-making skills our youth learn how to avoid high-risk situations as much as possible, and they gain the tools to de-escalate situations that were outside of their control. The STANDARD says, the only person responsible for your choices is you and the only one who will suffer the consequences of bad decisions is you.
I bet you thought this would say something about a 'POSITIVE' attitude. No, we deal with the real world and real problems and not every situation will be appropriate for a positive attitude response. The STANDARD for our young men is to exhibit a GROUNDED ATTITUDE. Meaning, approach every situation from a realistic and grounded perspective. Acknowledge the problem, seek solutions, ask for help, take ownership if you're wrong, and don't gloss over or minimize challenges. A grounded attitude helps young men stay composed, bounce back from setbacks, and lead with confidence. Be positive but be realistic.
Respect is paramount to healthy development and the ability to achieve goals. Respect encompasses self, peers, strangers, parents, and authority figures. Respect should be a mutual exchange between two parties. This is emphasized in every element of our program, respect creates the foundation for influence, trust, and long-term leadership. The STANDARD says disrespect is not worth losing your life or your freedom over. Respect yourself first and enough to manage situations with control and conviction.
Drive fuels courage to set goals and the perseverance to keep moving toward their goals. Drive steps in when failure inevitably strikes, doubt creeps in or naysayers try to convince them to quit. Drive is the force that pushes back against pressure when it seeks to knock them off course. The STANDARD says motivation is an internal force. just like you drive and control a car, you drive and control your choices.
The Standard Club was created to give middle school boys what too many never receive real tools to lead themselves with character, confidence, and control.
Founded by Dr. Marci Batiste, a leadership strategist and behavioral health expert with over 30 years of experience in youth development and trauma recovery, this program is built on one undeniable truth: most damage starts long before the crisis. And too often, it starts because boys are never taught how to manage pressure, regulate emotion, or ask for help without shame.
Instead, they’re told to toughen up. Power through. Don’t cry.
The result? Boys grow into men who carry silent pain, act out under pressure, and crash hard when life hits back.
The Standard Club exists to change that.
This isn’t about theory. It’s about lived experience, in the field expertise, hands on credibility, and a career spent on both sides of the equation. Over 20 years helping kids before they become case files and working with men to repair the damage after the fact.
Dr. Marci has worked on the front lines of trauma, addiction, and system failure from behavioral health administration to direct counseling to youth program design and serving six years as a state appointed member of Arizona Foster Care Review Board advocating for the safety and well-being of children.
Her prevention-first work with men through The Silent Sons Initiative and athletes through GameReady Elite™ proved one thing clearly: it starts in middle school.
That’s why The Standard Club was created. To serve and support the boys standing at the crossroads of identity, peer pressure, and early decision-making.
We’re not waiting until they fall. We’re preparing them to stand upright under pressure with character and confidence.
The Standard Club is proud to partner with Fan of the Logo, a nationally recognized Pittsburgh Steelers fan organization known for its commitment to community, connection, and service.
